Sensata Technologies, Inc. Senior Motor Design Engineer in Vista, California

Position Summary:

Sensata is currently seeking a Senior Motor Design Engineer. The Senior Motor Design Engineer should possess the ability to perform design, testing, and evaluation of Brushless DC motors, Flux2D, Flux3D, or other Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software as well as thermal analysis, and full nonlinear analytical model of motors and generators. He/She will be a key team member for the business and report directly to the Engineering Manager. This position is located in the Vista, CA location.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform product development activities, including overseeing the layout, interpretation, and implementation of customer specifications to adapt existing products to customers’ needs or to develop new products.

  • Perform specific engineering work related to electrical/electronics, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, safety, health & environmental or software applications. Select techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.

  • Work with other engineers, designers and technicians to effectively develop recommendations to resolve problems.

  • Maintain up-to-date thorough knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.

  • Conduct feasibility studies, provide cost estimates, design concepts and engineering criteria.

  • Work on advanced technologies to use for new products. Perform analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components to meet internal and external customer requirements.

  • Interact with other functions and locations to determine optimum product/process solutions.

  • Work with the Applications and Sales Engineers to ensure development and improvement of products to meet customer requirements.

  • Support Sales Department with Customer RFQs and technical design and application issues.

  • Assist production staff in the manufacturability, material selection and assembly tooling to manufacture products.

  • Review work orders, production specifications and technical instruction for accuracy.

  • Assist in developing strategic global alliance of suppliers by providing cost effective production techniques, quality assurance procedures and on time delivery.

  • Determine problem areas and need for appropriate actions.

  • Follow and enforce all safety regulations.

Job Requirements:

A successful candidate must have/be:

  • BS degree in electrical, electro-mechanical or magnetics engineering (MS degree preferred)

  • At least 5 years of experience in electro-mechanical design, experience in the field of motor design preferred

  • Leadership/ managerial experience preferred, not required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

  • Strong understanding of electrical and electro/mechanical concepts.

  • Competent in the use of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Experience working with various MIL-Specs and other aerospace/military requirements.

Additional Details:

This position requires potential access to technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the successful candidate must be a "U.S. person" as defined in the ITAR and EAR. In order to be a U.S. person for ITAR and EAR purposes, you must: (i) be a citizen or national of the United States; or (ii) be a lawful permanent resident (i.e., "green card holder") of the United States; or (iii) have been admitted to the United States as a refugee, or have been granted asylum, provided that you have applied for naturalization within six months of the date you first became eligible, and if not yet accepted, you are actively pursuing naturalization after two years from the date of your application.
