Sensata Technologies, Inc. Regional Quality Engineering Director in Troy, Michigan
The Quality Director is responsible for, oversees, and accountable for the overall management, direction and coordination of the Quality activities and results within the region while ensuring alignment with the overall Global Quality strategy. Accountable for all Regional Auto Quality aspects, including but not limited to New Product Development, Manufacturing, Customer, Supplier, and Warranty
Lead for critical, high severity, and potential safety Quality topics directly including design, manufacturing, and application aspects. Additionally mentors the team to ensure compliance and early/proactive identification of potential issues. Consistently ensure a Cross-Functional and Continuous Improvement approach is utilized.
Responsible and accountable for all aspects of Cost of Poor Quality including defining associated improvement strategies with roadmaps over current and outlying years. Regular reporting of achievement of KPI’s and expected performance to Global Q Director and above as beneficial to the team.
Beyond the Auto Americas responsibility this role is also to directly influence and support Electric Vehicle/High Voltage product Roadmaps and Continuous Improvements. These activities focus on understanding Customer usage needs, prediction of future applications/technology usage, Read/Look across to all ST supported industries, driving complete issue resolution, applying Lessons Learned, leading ‘Do-Different’ methodology, and coaching of other Regions.
General Responsibilities
Directs all assigned quality assurance team members while reporting team successes and opportunities to the Director of Quality Assurance and Development
Oversees the sharing and implementation of best practices across all business units
Directs the activities of the Quality Management System
Oversees time management and operational support
Directs and produces Quality Assurance measures and metrics which report any trends or process improvement opportunities for each project
Directs the training and other required activities for the department
Oversees internal control failure remediation efforts
Experience / Qualifications
A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members
Holds self and others accountable to achieving goals and standards
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers
Possesses excellent leadership and organizational skills with prior experience leading managers, engineers, technicians and operators.
Job Responsibilities :
Experienced in Quality with Mechanical, Electrical, and ASIC/Semi-Conductor based products in Automotive applications
Experience in advanced Quality tools including but not limited to D/PFMEA, Control Plans, Boundary Diagrams, Six Sigma, 8D process expertise and ability to train
Lead Operations Quality, Customer Quality, Supplier Quality, New Product Development Quality and Warranty Management organizations within the local region
Drive continuous quality improvement both high-volume and high mix/low volume environments
Support all Sensata’s Automotive business interests in the region. Similarly support across Business Units/Industries for cross-business products
Drive effective collaboration within the Regional Business Center(s) to insure we are properly servicing our customers (internal and external) to deliver expected responsiveness and avoid escalations
Close collaboration between New Product Development teams to ensure new products launch “Green” quality at rate on-time and in budget. Ensure the early operational engagement to improve handoff from development into serial production
Liaise with Regional Function & Plant Management to define quality & risk continuous improvement plans & targets
Lead continuous improvement activity in advance, manufacturing, and warranty for quality related concerns. This includes Cost of Non-Quality (CNQ) and warranty cost performance activities for all products in all plants and technical centers within the Region, including Joint Ventures.
Manage the regional quality budgets to insure we are delivering quality activities in line with the committed quality budget and annual plan
Liaise with other Regional Quality and Functional leaders to support concern resolution on inter-regional component supply and the sharing of lessons learned to prevent concern recurrence.
Provide consultancy and technical support to develop and implement the Quality Management System within the regional sites that complies with legal, industry and customer specific requirements such as ISO9001, AS9001, IATF16949, or other systems as applicable.
Requiring experience in these Automotive standards in regards to how to apply, how to develop teams, locations and products towards those standards (not limited to ISO, AIAG, IATF, and Automotive Specific standards.
Implement a robust internal and external audit and monitoring system across the region and sites to ensure ongoing compliance to the Quality Management systems as detailed above.
Develop his/her direct reports to take on increased responsibility, improve performance and work more autonomously to contribute to the talent pipeline. Actively promote and develop succession planning.
Lead customer and supplier quality related issues and escalations within the Region
Support the Regional customer quote process by ensuring effective Quality risk management and the availability of relevant information on past concerns and lessons learned, liaising with the Central Quality and Customer Quality Champions as appropriate.
Provide leadership and direction to suppliers to ensure compliance to Sensata’s Global Quality Supplier Manual. Lead the supplier escalation reviews within the Region.
Act as the primary Quality Leader interface between the Customer senior level representatives and Sensata Leadership, operational plants and business centers with full authority and responsibility for quality within the region.
Provide expert support to regions and plants in the management of series production quality and warranty related activities, including concern resolution and continuous improvement efforts, with the global customer’s local manufacturing facilities.
Support and promote Electrification Look/Read Across throughout Sensata
Actively support Electric Vehicle and High Voltage products and technology Continuous Improvement.
