Sensata Technologies, Inc. Product Engineer in Tijuana, Mexico

Through a comprehensive understanding of the different product technologies, materials and specifications, the Product Engineer “PE” will drive projects that impact the product design to improve the quality, performance and/or cost of a product. He/she will provide technical guidance to the rest of the organization and also act as a liaison between the R&D group and the manufacturing site. The PE has the ownership of the product designs with respect to drawings, BOMs, DFMEAs and performance/reliability specifications.

Experience required: More than 4 years of experience in an engineering department.

Demonstrates problem solving skills with regards to possible design and process causes.

Bases his thought process on statistics and physics.

Able to understand & contribute at technical discussions in English.

Familiar with typical manufacturing processes (hand soldering, metal forming, plastic injection molding, stamping, plating, etc.).

Understanding of ERP system.

Educational level: Engineering degree required (electronic, electromechanical or mechanical)


Job responsibilities:

Modifies existing product design to improve field performance, cost, manufacturability, supplier driven changes, to comply with new customer requirements, or to replace obsolete materials/processes with updated technologies.

Provides sustaining engineering support to the production facility.

Creates optimal Design/Product Test Plans (DVP&R) based on the nature of the product or process change.

Supports technical customer and supplier interactions.

Build prototype samples for design validations or new business opportunities.

Supports the plant in the New Product Introduction process.

Supports R&D in the New Product Development process.

Conducts and participate in Product/Process Design Reviews.

Analyzes historical product/component related data to determine/predict performance and non-conformances.

Identifies and supports Cost Saving initiatives related to changes in materials, geometries or methods that meet product performance and reliability.

Record all investigation/analysis findings, validation results and discovered best practices in the form of a formal Engineering Report.

Supports electrical/mechanical product failure analysis.

Generates Engineering Reports for internal and external (customer, supplier, etc) reference.

Understand and implement policies and procedures of Quality Systems (IATF 16949), Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), Health Management System and Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001), and any other system that the company may require for its operation.
