Sensata Technologies, Inc. Process Design Engineer NPD in Tijuana, Mexico

The Process Engineer will be on the Industrial Business Team and will be responsible for developing or modifying manufacturing processes to increase product performance, improve manufacturing efficiency and boost profits. This Process Engineer will report to the New Product Development Project Manager and will work on project teams with Sensata Product design engineers, Planning teams, Customer Service teams, marketing and quality engineers, and external suppliers and equipment vendors to support the development of new electromechanical sensor products. They are responsible for providing the overall process design and suggesting measures to improve product design for manufacturability. This includes the development of new equipment and process flows as well as developing capacity plans and cost estimates for labor and capital. They will also provide ongoing sustaining support to production lines at our global make sites.


  • Subject matter expert and process engineer leader on A-List new product development global project teams
  • Leads cross functional teams
  • Develop synergies across multiple product lines
  • Represents the organization as the principal customer contact and generally performs in program/project leadership role.
  • Interacts with management and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines
  • Defines manufacturing strategy for zero defect
  • Collaborate with other departments on process specifications, quality aspects, Product specifications and continuity of equipment
  • Advises on functional requirements, reviews design and arranges the debugging/qualifying of new high-volume assembly/test equipment or tooling
  • Supports improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects and manufacturing cost
  • Collaborates with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure processes are capable, have enough controls in place, can meet our delivery requirements, and meet our cost targets.
  • Leads advanced quality planning activities
  • Leads the development of new or improved manufacturing and testing processes that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future device applications
  • Leads the successful launch of new products
  • Define specifications for production equipment and interact with Mechanization and suppliers to ensure the equipment meets the requirements.
  • Proactively identify risk mitigation opportunities and Process improvements
  • Collaborates with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure processes are capable with enough controls in place and meet cost and delivery targets.
  • Evaluate Sensata’s and supplier’s technical capabilities including, tooling design, build experience, maintenance program, processes and Process controls, cell automation – if required, quality control systems, and materials knowledge
  • Influencing product designs during new product development phase to insure economical and defect free manufacture.
  • Create and develop new or improve current manufacturing and testing processes that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future device applications.
  • Specifying functional requirements, reviewing designs, debug and qualification of new high-volume assemblies, test equipment and tooling.
  • Responsible of the equipment qualification and conduct MSA of the new equipment during the development phase of the projects
  • Responsible for presenting Process reviews PRBFM
  • Responsible to document each of the equipment and verify they meet the EHS requirements
  • Responsible to support engineering during Product Validation (PV) schedules
  • Responsible to coordinate and provide direct training to the personnel in the effort to produce C-samples during the qualification.
  • Support PPAP and production Launches and maintain control of product process performance
  • Define and coordinate the activities of industrialization of new models, following the guidelines established in the processes of introduction of new products and the APQP system.
  • Generation of deliverables of the different stages of industrialization of new models with adherence to the Procedure of development of new products
  • Development of new manufacturing processes by applying the use of innovation technologies to improve processes, use of lessons learned and best practices in manufacturing engineering.
  • Introduction of new technologies and management methods to improve processes and improve the manufacturing of products.
  • Create and Develop plant layout, process flow, equipment tracking and manufacturing processes for new programs including new technology or improvement of current processes.

Additional Experience.

  • Knowledge of backend electrical function testing and electromechanical device calibration is desired but not mandatory
  • Leadership skills and ability to work with little direction.
  • Proven interpersonal, analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Ability to positively influence and build relationships with global team members
  • Engineering aptitude to participate in design reviews and assist during debug & qualification
  • Ability to identify & correct problems by utilization of root cause problem solving skills.
  •  Basic understanding of DOE
  • Advanced Skills in Microsoft Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T)
  • Industrial Engineering Skills a plus (process flow, labor efficiency).
  • Experience with Agile.
  • Experience with Minitab
  • Experience with CAD SolidWorks and ACAD
  • Six Sigma Green belt a plus.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to assist the global team and work with our suppliers as needed is a must.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Minimum BS degree in engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial)
  • 10+ years of product /process development experience                                                                                 
  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results.
  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers.
