Sensata Technologies, Inc. Mechanical Design Engineer in Tijuana, Mexico
This engineering position will participate in conceptual design and corresponding evaluation; will be responsible of product components and assemblies design and corresponding documentation in Solidworks, working on a R&D structure.
Proficiency in 3D CAD tools, generation of detailed Drawings for quoting and tooling fabrication purposes and some Finite Element Analysis Software experience (Physics-Nonlinear, Thermo-Structural and CFD).
Knowledge of mechanical design for plastic enclosures and parts, metallic and sheet-metal parts, composites, subsystems integration and assemblies.
Participation in product development, design, model and evaluate medium complex plastic parts, metal/sheet-metal parts and assemblies under industrial standard basis, using 3D CAD software (Solidworks) supporting the product design process and working coordinated with electronic engineers and industrialization engineers.
Sub-assemblies and Systems Tolerance Analysis to ensure the adequate interaction between sub-systems, internal components and enclosure components proper fit.
Plastic resin, metallic and composite materials research and selection.
Monitoring and supporting for new components tooling (Molding Tools, Progressive Dies) and parts fabrication processes in collaboration with suppliers.
Components drawings, Assembly drawings and related documentation, mechanical testing plans generation and hands-on testing tasks.
Participate in programmed design reviews of projects, prototype and pilot runs by supporting Industrialization design and implementation, in order to develop the most adequate and achievable product architecture and construction.
Performs under a high behavior for the successful and timely completion of assigned design activities, deliverable and product cost targets.
Clear and continuous communication within the R&D team members and product development team members from other departments for achieve deadlines.
Committed involvement into industrialization and process improvement activities during every project development.
Document, follow up and implement lessons learned and participate on adequate distribution and application.
Is involved in providing technical support with relevant on field job have to work with manufacturer's representatives, regional sales managers, and customers for successful sales conversion.
Troubleshooting system applications on customer's request, resolving other engineering issues regarding systems application.
Analyzing technological problems in installed application systems, checking its technical resolution and working condition, and fixing the same if required.
Experience and Requirements:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
MS in engineering as a plus.
3+ years of experience in new product development process.
3+ years of experience in product mechanical/thermal design.
Strong knowledge of 3D CAD software (assemblies, modeling, drafting, routing), Solidworks is preferred.
Finite Element Analysis knowledge (Nonlinear, Thermo-Structural, CFD).
GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerating) knowledge and background.
Good communication, attitude and team work skills
Proficiency in English (85%), knowledge of MS Office
Desired additional qualifications:
PDP methodology background.
Green Belt Six Sigma knowledge/training.
Experience with Engineering Change Orders (ECO) processes, generation of BOM structures, and New Products introduction.
Plastic components design focused on process ability and Plastic Injection Molding Tool design principles.
