Sensata Technologies, Inc. Test Automation Engineer in Thousand Oaks, California

As a Senior Automation and Control Design Engineer at Sensata, you will be tasked to work as an individual contributor within a dedicated and talented engineering team. This will involve designing, testing, installing and maintaining integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and production line manufacturing equipment in a global environment. This position requires the one to take ownership of all aspects of the design project including defining the hardware control system architecture, system software development, configuration management and creating documentation packages.

This position requires the individual to be able to work within multi-disciplined product teams to ensure that the end system is both cost effective and optimal to meet the needs of the business.

General Responsibilities

  • Creates designs within inter-disciplinary teams to address complex product design and manufacturing challenges

  • Leads feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs

  • Develops testing, engineering analysis, qualification testing, production launch

  • Responsible for failure analysis investigations and engineering evaluations

  • Produce technical documentation, which includes system functional design, technical design, use cases, and technical release documents

  • Lead or participate in engineering design reviews as required

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)

  • Knowledge and use of Software Configuration Management platforms, such as Microsoft Azure DevOps

  • Strong C/C++/C# skills

  • PLC programming experience with Omron, Allen Bradley, and Mitsubishi products

  • Ability to specify components in support of the design of a test or control system (e.g. ATE equipment, motion control, temperature control, power distribution, and low voltage control, etc.)

  • Strong embedded systems experience based on various ASIC, FPGA, and micro-controller components

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Experience in related areas would be a plus:

  • Knowledge of machine safety risk assessment and safety system design (e.g., E-stops, Interlocks and guarding)

  • Knowledge of OPC UA as inter-communication protocol of systems

  • Knowledge of Solid Works Electrical and Altium Designer

  • Understanding of network systems architectures, system management and network protocols
