Sensata Technologies, Inc. Production Manager in Thousand Oaks, California

The Production Manager is responsible for directing, guiding and overseeing all areas and activities of production control and manufacturing to ensure productivity, on time delivery and quality standards for both assembly and machining. Uses a LEAN mindset to ensure operations are robust, efficient, and repeatable. Utilizes production data/feedback for all key performance indicators to analyze issues and formulate/implement plans to increase utilization/productivity/margins. Ensures correct staffing and skill levels are enough for current and future needs. Working with product engineering to ensure manufacturing lessons learned are being included for products currently in development.

  • Translate customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of company products.

  • Analyze Manufacturing and Machine Shop operations to evaluate performance and determine areas of potential cost reduction, process improvement and/or policy changes. Develop plans, measure execution and improvement items as needed.

  • Access global machine shops and partner with purchasing team to find qualified machine shops for offload.

  • Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine manufacturing feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.

  • Forecasts operating costs of department and direct preparation of budget requests.

  • Assists in the development of the strategic plan and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for the function.

  • Reviews and establishes material, equipment, and manpower resource requirements.

  • Prioritizes production schedules bases on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply in order to meet customer requirements.

  • Coordinates production activities with other functional groups such as planning and logistics.

  • Assists in the design and development of new engineering parts. Coordinate with functional teams on new product development process, selection of machines, tools, fixtures, and inspection methods. Provide assembly support for New Product Development builds.

  • Responsible for ensuring strict adherence of all company manufacturing standards/methods and policies. Implements and develops manufacturing processes and departmental SOP’s.

  • Optimize manufacturing and machining processes in terms of consistent quality and productivity.

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice Lean vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance

  • Manage department objectives/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports

  • Oversee customer commitments with production staff to assure top quality and on-time delivery

  • Manage and motivate individuals and teams to achieve breakthrough improvements at all levels in the organization.

  • Provide a safe and conducive working environment that promotes creativity and innovation

Experience / Qualifications*

  • A university degree and 7-10 years of experience

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems. Familiarity with JDE a plus.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members

  • Holds self and others accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers
