Sensata Technologies, Inc. Global Trade Compliance Specialist - Export Controls in Thousand Oaks, California
This Export Controls Specialist position provides technical and regulatory support and control for export activities for Sensata’s Military/Aerospace business. It is primarily responsible for maintaining compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other relevant trade compliance regulations.
Support the company’s overall export compliance operation, especially those relating to ITAR and EAR, in collaboration with site-level supervision and headquarters Global Trade Compliance (GTC) organization
Create training materials, work instructions and procedures, deliver team training, and provide support and guidance to several functional groups for export compliance issues (Thousand Oaks, California; Attleboro, Massachusetts, production sites in Mexico)
Conduct auditing activities to identify, quantify and report to Supervisor and/or GTC management any potential violations of trade compliance laws and compliance violations and any incidents involving significant weaknesses in processes or procedures
Request advice and guidance from the trade compliance management for trade compliance issues involving significant complexity and potential concern to the company
Interact remotely with global team members pertaining to GTC and cross-functionally related personnel, such as Engineering, Customer Service, Procurement, Sales, Logistics, etc
Review and validate export classifications of parts and materials; must be capable of the complex analyses inherent to military/aerospace export controls, and able to determine when further escalation is required to arrive at accurate determinations (e.g. to Trade Compliance Management, internal/external counsel)
Support the GTC management with the preparation of classification ruling requests.
Create applications, file, and monitor the statuses of licenses, agreements, shipping documents, and other underlying documentation for accuracy compliance with ITAR and other applicable export compliance regulations
Maintain license files and a database of current and expired license files and tracks pending and approved licenses/approvals
Audit license, agreement, and shipping files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with record keeping requirements and reports findings to trade compliance supervisor and/or other trade compliance management
Support internal, external, and government-directed compliance audits and assessments
Attend trade compliance seminars/conferences to maintain knowledge on regulatory updates and proposed changes
Assist in preparation of letters, certifications, and other correspondence to customers, vendors, brokers, freight forwarders, and other parties involved in export transactions
Assist management on gathering information and prepare periodic updates and metrics reports for export operations
BA/BS degree minimum; further education in trade controls strongly preferred (e.g. export certification, courses)
Minimum 3-5 Years of trade compliance/ITAR experience; prior experience in military/aerospace production environment(s) strongly preferred; some import experience a plus
Strong knowledge and experience with export operations and U.S. government regulations as set forth in the ITAR, EAR, FTR, OFAC, and other relevant export compliance regulations. Additional trade compliance experience, such as imports, customs brokerage license, etc. considered a plus
Ability to self-manage in remote reporting structure and yet be the on-site knowledge expert "go to person" for ITAR compliance related information at the several production sites
Proficiency with MS Office applications and ability to download and analyze transactional data related to export compliance
Working knowledge of JD Edwards, Oracle, and/or other ERP system desirable
Because this position requires potential access to technology controlled under the ITAR or EAR, the successful candidate must be a "U.S. person" as defined in the ITAR
