Sensata Technologies, Inc. CNC Programmer in Thousand Oaks, California

The Machine Shop Programmer analyzes end-user requirements and/or design and develop programs that automate specific business processes.

  • Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).

  • Programming CNC Machining Centers by generating G-code, entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.

  • Analyze drawings, blueprints, and design data in order to calculate correct part dimension for machines, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.

  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

  • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work and perform detailed inspection of parts produced.

  • Read instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts being machined within specified tolerance.

  • Consults with clients to analyze and understand functions to be automated, simplify features for ease of machining and cost savings, client needs, objectives, desired features and input and output requirements.

  • Analyzes codes to find causes of errors and revises programs.

  • Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems or questions with program.

  • Trains end users or technical support staff to use programs.

  • Organize and monitor CNC programs in conformance to AS9100 standards.

  • Analyzes, installs and tests upgrades of externally developed application programs.

  • Monitors performance of programs after implementation.

  • Upgrades system and corrects errors to maintain system after implementation.

  • Prepares time and cost estimates for completing projects.

  • May review project proposal or plan to determine timeframe, funding requirements and procedures for accomplishing project goals and objectives.

  • Occasionally set up and operate CNC equipment as needed.

Experience / Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.

  • Three years’ experience as a Gibbs Cam CNC Programmer, programming with 2D/3D CAM/CAD software in a shop environment for multi-axis machining.

  • Experience programming for and operating CNC turning, milling and multi-axis machines

  • Experience designing fixtures and work holding methods.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Training in general safety awareness and practices.

  • Working knowledge of using calipers & micrometers.

  • Ability to fluently read and write English, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Intermediate to advanced shop math.

  • Ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers
