Sensata Technologies, Inc. Supply Chain & Purchasing Manager in Swindon, United Kingdom

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for maintaining consistency in purchasing methodology and procedures across all buyers. They will identify and implement process improvement with a goal to minimize transactional costs associated with material delivery to the plant.

General Responsibilities

  • Manages, evaluates, and develops a team of purchasing staff to ensure the team's resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met

  • Responsible for plans, cost estimates, and schedules for integrating these needs into existing purchasing activities

  • Manages a team of buyers to ensure they follow established procedures and policies

  • Supervise and evaluate the organization's overall purchasing trends to potential bulk purchases

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 5-7 years of experience

  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members

  • Holds self and others accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Full accountability for the semiconductor operations supply chain and purchasing activities to achieve on time delivery to cost for products both in development and full production.

  • End to end supply chain responsibility and tactical purchasing in excess of £30m annual spend.

  • Ensure timely delivery of materials to allow our operations to meet delivery commitment to company cost targets and report clearly against KPIs.

  • Work proactively alongside Engineering, test Engineering, Quality and Production both within Swindon and the wider Sensata Technologies to ensure delivery of new products on time and to cost targets.

  • Cost optimisation of management for new and existing products, building a 5 year should cost model and reporting monthly against the plan.

  • Forensic cost analysis and ability to understand all the value elements in the supply chain.

  • Supplier negotiation, supplier development and ensuring our capacity needs can be met.

  • Responsible for the workflow and management of material supply data in our ERP system.

  • Attend and contribute to all production meetings, presenting accurate supply and demand projections.

  • Use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in purchasing activity and procedures.

  • To be aware of packaging and transport regulatory requirements, compliance and information communication - including international trading issues/imports/legal, awareness and management.

  • Develop Departmental strategy and contribute to Company strategy.

  • Lead a small team of supply management and purchasing professionals.

  • Lead the department in keeping abreast of the latest innovations and developments.

  • Manage the day to day operations, ensuring compliance at all times with company and statutory requirements.

  • Establish department and team performance measures and KPI’s that improve effectiveness and meet goals and customer commitments on time to the required specification.

  • Regularly report on Departmental performance.

  • Develop and manage budgets.

  • Ensure solid and timely communication between the department and other parts of the business.

  • Facilitate team building, motivation, and morale and employee commitment.

  • Performance manage the department, providing leadership and guidance to team leaders.

  • Ensure adequate technical support and training and development plans are in place and review regularly.
