Sensata Technologies, Inc. NPD Quality Engineer in Sofia, Bulgaria

The NPD Quality Engineer leads all Quality aspects of new product development, by influencing the customer, the Sensata development team (Design, Process, Program Management, etc.), and the Sensata Manufacturing team. The goal of the NPD Quality Engineer is to achieve flawless execution of product development. A successful NPD Quality Engineer possesses the following strengths: strong leadership, very pro-active, results oriented, strong follow-through, the ability to influence others, a strong technical understanding of Sensata’s products, a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, and the motivation and ability to independently reach across geographical and cultural boundaries to solve problems.

General Responsibilities

  • Organizes designs, implements and maintains quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products

  • Key participant in planning, implementing and managing compliance of manufacturing and production processes with internal and external safety, quality and regulatory standards requirements for worldwide distribution

  • Organizes design methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of production processes, production equipment and finished products

  • Collaborates on analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary

  • Develops methods for testing, sampling and training

  • May act as internal consultant by providing technical guidance on most complex projects

  • Works with quality inspection supervisors to train and oversee inspectors in their use of control forms, procedures, and correcting quality problems

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deploy Quality policy, objectives, and goals within cross-functional teams

  • Assure quality systems are current and accurate

  • Ensure globally consistent use of the Sensata NPD process to drive results

  • Drive continuous improvement of the Sensata NPD process by supporting design of quality management system

  • Contribute ideas to product improvement roadmaps based on lessons learned & best practices (including industry standards ASTM, ISO, CQI, etc.) by facilitating kaizen and lean initiatives

  • Review customer quality agreements and requirements for deployment within APQP process

  • Review requirements and translate to operational controls and instructions (including reinspection, rework, and containment)

  • Audit engineering and project management work products for clarity, completeness, and compliance

  • Demonstrate full ownership of product quality by driving all relevant functions towards 100% robustness in meeting specifications/performance requirements

  • Assure compliance to defined operational controls and instructions

  • Develop and execute zero defect Safe Launch plans with support from cross-functional teams

  • Fulfill our customers' Quality System requirements (APQP, VDA, etc.)

  • Analyze changes and deviations for risk and implementation of lessons learned & best practices

  • Manage deviations with customers during APQP and Launch phases

  • Define and develop special characteristics in collaboration with customers, engineering, and operations

  • Ensure product success by assessing design, process, and suppliers against customer and Sensata requirements throughout NPD

  • Lead and participate in 8D activities including coordination of containment activity, failure analysis and problem solving (before and including C-sample build)

  • Development of Sample build Inspection checklists for all sample builds (B & C samples)

  • Assure quality and timeliness of 8D responses to customers for all phases of NPD launch

  • Directly support of NPD launch goals of 0-100-90 metrics

  • Coordinate MSA studies and capability studies to feedback feasibility assessments of new product and processes to engineering teams and management

  • Coordinate failure analysis and teardown of devices to provide feedback to engineering teams and management

ACTIVITIES at MFG SITE:

  • Implementation of Safe Launch controls to ensure Zero defects occur or released to customer

  • Work directly with OQE / Process Engineering team to coordinate NPD launch activities

  • Support local Sensata site for customer visits and audits during new product launches

  • Must attend customer meetings (Live & Teleconference) and accommodate various time zones to attend

  • Lead and participate in 8D activities including coordination of containment activity, failure analysis and problem solving (between C-sample build and launch control exit)

  • Compile and submit PPAP packages to customers per requirements and track within internal and external systems

  • Work with cross functional team to manage Engineering / Design changes to assure unapproved changes within the supply chain are not released to customer.

  • Assure warranty and quality (internal rejects) risks associated with new products or introduction of a changes are mitigated to an acceptable level

  • Incorporate Failure Analysis process flow for new products

  • Train and coach ops quality to handover responsibility before project closure

  • Drive continuous improvement of new products and changes with PMT, Design and Process engineering in business centers (sharing of best practices regionally and globally)

  • Capture and document Lessons Learned into Lessons Learned database. Perform Read across to all future NPD launches

  • Train local plant teams on Lessons Learned (LL) Database and its application for 8D and corrective action information

  • Assess risks that may exist in current FA analysis results and Read Across into NPD LL database

EXPERIENCE:

  • Ideally a minimum of 3 Years of working experience in quality functions, and good knowledge of Quality Systems (ISO 9000 / TS16949 / VDA 6.3).

  • Be familiar with quality management and manufacturing processes; also familiar with AIAG manual: APQP, FMEA, MSA, PPAP and SPC a plus. Experience in process / product engineering is a plus.

  • Be familiar with core quality tools such as SPC/MSA/PFMEA/PPAP/APQP

  • Strong communication skills and history of influencing at all levels of an organization. Negotiation skills.

  • Ability to develop unique, differentiated solutions to complex problems strong problem-solving skills (8D/5Why/Fishbone Root Cause Analysis)

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing.

  • Good English language ability in reading, writing, and speaking.

  • Preferences:

  • Customer satisfaction handling experience and knowledge on automotive industries

  • At least 3 years’ experience in quality function and good knowledge on Quality Systems

  • Certified Quality Systems or TS 16949 internal auditor

  • Program management, and Design or Process Engineering experience is preferred.

  • Abundant assembly/function test/customer service experience is preferred.

  • Certified VDA auditor

  • 6 Sigma Green Belt or above

  • Experience with automotive / off-road industry

  • Experience with common Quality tools: DFM, GD&T, APQP, FMEA, control plan, and 8D.
