Sensata Technologies, Inc. Global Trade Compliance Specialist in Phoenix, Arizona

Sensata is currently looking to hire a Global Trade Compliance (GTC) Specialist who will be participate with ensuring all import and export activities are completed in compliance with applicable government rules and regulations. This dynamic position provides support to the GTC Americas Regional Manager by helping the Americas team to develop and maintain the import and export compliance program in the Americas region. It is primarily responsible for maintaining compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), U.S. Customs Regulations, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), embargoes and denied party screening, export classification determinations, supply chain security, and other relevant trade compliance regulations.

General Responsibilities

  • Leads and directs flow of air and surface traffic to/from foreign destinations

  • Computes duties, tariffs, price conversions, weight, and volume of merchandise exported/imported to/from foreign destinations

  • Examines invoices and shipping documents to ensure accordance with federal regulations

  • Leads the discharge process for materials and components temporary imported into through the inventory control system bimonthly

  • Leads the discharges process for machinery and equipment imported temporary through the customs inventory control system

  • Review, audit and perform appropriate corrections to information contained in the master catalog to keep information accurate and correct at all times

  • Innovate on and validate local classifications of parts and materials to reconcile with local broker information

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures at the corporate level, ensuring site-level compliance with regulations and corporate policy.

  • Conduct auditing, monitoring activities and transactional testing to identify, quantify and report to the GTC Americas Region Manager results.

  • Manage and assign US HTS classifications, Export Control Classification (ECCN) and country of origin information. Must be capable of the complex analysis inherent to military/aerospace export controls, and able to determine when further escalation is required to arrive at accurate determinations (e.g. to GTC Americas Regional Manager, internal/external counsel).

  • Support Free Trade Agreements and special programs, including management of certificates of origin.

  • Support internal, external, and government-directed compliance audits and assessments. Prepare supporting documentation to respond to US Customs request of Information and notice of action (CF28, CF29)

  • Create training materials, deliver team training, and provide support and guidance to several functional groups for import and export compliance issues.

  • Interact remotely with global team members pertaining to Global Trade Compliance and cross-functionally related personnel, such as Engineering, Customer Service, Procurement, Sales, Logistics, etc.

  • Coordinate and manage the supply chain security programs in the Americas region such as CTPAT and AEO.

  • Manage US Customs Reconciliation program.

  • Support the GTC Americas Region Manager and/or other trade compliance management with the preparation of classification ruling requests.

  • Create applications, file, and monitor the statuses of export licenses, agreements, shipping documents, and other underlying documentation for accuracy compliance with ITAR and other applicable export compliance regulations.

  • Maintain export license files and a database of current and expired license files and tracks pending and approved licenses/approvals.

  • Audit export license, agreement, and shipping files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with record keeping requirements and reports findings to trade compliance supervisor and/or other trade compliance management.

  • Assist in preparation of letters, certifications, and other correspondence to customers, vendors, brokers, freight forwarders, and other parties involved in import and export transactions.

  • Prepare periodic updates and metrics reports for import and export operations.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS degree minimum; further education in trade controls strongly preferred (e.g. export certification, courses)

  • Minimum five years of trade compliance/ITAR experience; prior experience in military/aerospace production environment(s) strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with export operations and U.S. government regulations as set forth in the ITAR, EAR, FTR, OFAC, and other relevant export compliance regulations. Additional trade compliance experience, such as imports, customs brokerage license, etc. considered a plus.

  • Transactional auditing experience on an ongoing, cyclical basis.

  • Working knowledge of regulations pertinent to US-headquartered corporations, e.g. US export regulations (EAR and ITAR, OFAC), anti-boycott, denied party screening, various sanctions/embargoes administered by the US and EU.

  • Experience performing product qualification for Free Trade Agreements.

  • Ability to work effectively in a remote-communication environment within a global reporting structure.

  • Experience with trade compliance information systems (ACE, Global Trade Management software, screening systems, etc.).

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications and ability to download and analyze transactional data related to import and export compliance.

  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards, Oracle, and/or other ERP system desirable.

  • Must be willing to travel from time to time. Travel expectation estimated 15% - 20% annually.

  • Because this position requires potential access to technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the successful candidate must be a "U.S. person" as defined in the ITAR and EAR.
