Sensata Technologies, Inc. Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer in Phoenix, Arizona
Sensata’s Qinex Division is innovating new electro-mechanical solutions to perform temperature and electrical testing of semiconductors for the back-end reliability testing process. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work individually, with a local team or global engineering team and directly with the end customer on the design of new products or a derivative design to meet customer requirements.
The position is responsible for the design, development, testing, documentation and manufacturing process implementation to execute successful delivery of new products and to support products already in the field. The engineer will work directly with sales and customers in determining requirements and addressing technical inquiries during the product lifecycle. The person will also work closely with manufacturing during the production of the product to ensure all requirements are achieved.

Proactively challenge and drives the organization to deliver improved quality and performance related to engineering design
Product Strategy participant and driver
Maintain product documentation (drawings and specifications)
Direct interaction with customers to solicit product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget
Corrosion research and welding characterization & has a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluid, thermo and heat transfer
Advanced knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals and product test processes
Familiarity with manufacturing methods welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding and forming. Basic knowledge of core manufacturing processes
Experience / Qualifications
A university degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)
Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
Conduct research and create designs for new product developments
Make improvements or updates to existing designs and development standards
Use SolidWorks CAD software to design, model, validate (FEA) and performing drafting/documentation of product designs and concepts
Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete product designs
Identify and select materials needed for production
Define test plans and provide direction for product testing with support of lab staff
Produce final drawings, specifications and perform production release process in PLM system
Work with production staff to develop and implement a production process for new and existing products
Support the production manufacturing process as needed to assure all products meet necessary requirements and customer expectations
Act as a manufacturing process engineer as required
Understand how one’s decisions affect product cost, performance, and quality
Travel to production facilities as needed to evaluate processes
Travel to customer facilities as needed to support products in the field
BSE in Mechanical Engineering or BSME and 5+ years of experience in a technical role as an engineer, technician, production process lead or similar experience
Experience with CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, tight tolerance components, etc.
Proficient user of CAD/3D solid modeling tools - SolidWorks 2018 or newer preferred
- Experience with test sockets, semiconductor packaging types, and back-end semiconductor reliability testing process a plus
