The Sensata Insights business unit creates hardware and software for connected vehicles of all types. Our systems start at the sensor layer and go all the way to the cloud. This particular position supports our Edina MN team that is focused on the refrigerated transportation market space. We currently have product on the largest refrigerated container shipping company in the world. The software engineer will contribute as a developer for a cloud-based IoT system in the areas of web applications and data services.
Collaborates with developing complex software in selected languages for Sensata products and/or applications consistently following Sensata’s coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodology and release processes
Key participant in the development of software to control external hardware for automated test equipment and other applicable development
Organizes software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process
Creates and executes designs for small sets of new functionality as part of a software project
Organizes participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
Experience / Qualifications
A university degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree)
Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers
Specific duties include:
Work on a cloud-based IoT software system consisting of platform (PaaS) and infrastructure (IaaS) services
Design .NET Core services to be used within Docker container orchestration systems
Design and optimize relational database schemas, SQL queries, and procedures. Use object-mapping (ORM) libraries where appropriate
Design intuitive, well-modeled API endpoints for both internal and user-facing consumption that conform to RESTful concepts. Use OpenAPI specification to document these endpoints
Understand messaging protocols such as MQTT or AMQP and be comfortable using third-party message brokers (e.g., Mosquitto, RabbitMQ.)
Implement application-level TCP communication with embedded devices and custom protocols
Design and maintain web application front and backends, using a variety of web technologies
Collaborate with firmware/hardware teams to design new system-wide features and solutions
Improve existing CI/CD pipelines and implement additional automation where needed
Add monitoring and test suites to existing systems to prevent service interruptions and for aiding in quickly identifying problem root causes
Support end-users for high-priority issues
Document development plans, processes, and overall applications from a technical perspective
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Azure Resource Manager
Experience with cloud IoT solutions
Experience with Docker containers and container orchestration solutions
Understanding of the common communication protocols like TCP/IP, FTP, HTTP, and the corresponding security protocols like TLS, FTPS and HTTPS
Experience developing or interfacing with embedded products
