The Supplier Quality Engineer investigates, analyzes and resolves supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends and leading continuous improvement projects. Working in project teams, the Supplier Quality Engineer is applying advanced quality planning to ensure that new developed products are meeting the expectation of Sensata and Customers.

General Responsibilities

  • Handles resolution of problems related to misunderstanding or misinterpretation of product specifications

  • Provides active support during the supplier selection process, to ensure that a well-prepared and best supplier

  • Provides technical input for strategic sourcing projects

  • Requests Supplier Risk Assessments

  • Supports drawing and tool design reviews, works on measurement concepts

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Main purpose of the job:

As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Supplier Quality Engineering department, you will be part of a team working alongside our global PCB suppliers providing support for end to end activities, projects and complex technical matters. You are expected to have the skills, knowledge and drive to create new and novel solutions to the challenges we face. In some instances, we may utilize your leadership skills to direct the activities of other engineers as a project lead, and at other times you’ll be challenged as an individual technical contributor. Projects will provide frequent opportunities for collaboration among cross functional team environments as we work together to solve problems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team to ensure manufacturability of PCBs (Rigid, Rigid-flex, Substrate) are in line with defined specifications.

  • Responsible for supporting specification reviews (internal and external) and providing input during design reviews within the Design for Manufacture (DFM) process.

  • Maintain and enforce PCB specifications for external suppliers during the entire product lifecycle.

  • Evaluate and qualify PCB supplier manufacturing capabilities and control systems.

  • Conduct supplier manufacturing capability assessments (on site and off site) as appropriate and develop action plans to close gaps, supporting Continuous Improvement and Zero Incident activities.

  • Drive improvement for product quality of PCBs and manufacturing capability.

  • Apply expert knowledge to resolve complex technical situations effectively and quickly.

  • May be a direct contact of Sensata Customers in case of PCB Supplier Non-performance or required Continuous Improvement activities

  • Build and communicate action plans, manage them actively and establish routine reporting structure within the organization at all levels.

  • Respect the fundamentals of APQP to ensure the flawless launch of new products.

  • Develop and share Best Practices within the organisation.

  • Suggest alternative solutions where cost reduction opportunities exist, or design limitations require.

  • Provide technical support to other teams such as production and quality teams.

  • Lead change management activities for PCBs by ensuring the correct technical package is presented to the Change Review Board for approval and appropriate qualification conducted.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with 5+ years’ industry experience.

  • Excellent understanding of general PCB engineering principles; either design or manufacture.

  • Experience in bare PCBs (Rigid, Rigid-flex, Substrate) fabrication including familiarity with equipment, chemistries, and quality/failure analysis methodologies known in the industry.

  • Extensive working knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC-A-600 and J-SM-001G, certification would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of materials used throughout the PCBs manufacturing industry.

  • MSA and SPC in manufacturing process, such as rules and actions at X bar-R(S), GR%R, Correlation and manufacturing capability (Cp, CpK).

  • Strong technical communication skills for customer, supplier and internal dialog.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead project teams.

  • Able to collect and analyse data, expert knowledge of SPC.

  • Self-motivated, assertive and accountable when working with suppliers and varies cross-functional teams to drive flawless launches and resolve quality issues.

  • Working knowledge of the Core Quality Tools, 8D- 5 Why´s, LEAN manufacturing, Pareto data analysis, etc.

PERSONAL skills & knowledge:

  • Strong verbal and written communication with English as the language used within the global business.

  • Clearly conveying and receiving messages to meet the needs of all, including supplier

  • Experience in Advanced Quality Planning and Performance Development.

  • Capable to perform/ build professional audits (VDA 6.3 or similar) and reports.

  • Able to collect and analyze data with extensive knowledge of SPC and working knowledge of abnormality management.

  • Result oriented with positive thinking behavior.

  • Good problem-solving skills. Able to break down a big problem into small pieces and helping to fix it.

  • Willing to work with people in an international environment.

  • Prepared to discuss- and to present in front of the customer.

  • Valid car driving licence

  • Flexibility and ability to travel WORLDWIDE (20-30% of work time).
