Person responsible for overseeing and ensuring the execution of activities necessary to achieve functional safety

General Responsibilities

  • Creates designs within inter-disciplinary teams to address complex product design and manufacturing challenges

  • Leads feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs

  • Develops testing, engineering analysis, qualification testing, production launch

  • Responsible for failure analysis investigations and engineering evaluations

  • Maintains product documentation (drawings and specifications) and lessons learned; produce design reports, test reports, operating manuals and test procedures

  • Leads a team that includes senior engineers/managers for the purpose of engaging with customers in soliciting product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Main Responsibilities:

Develop project safety, and quality plans to ensure product compliance according to the relevant standards and customer requirements. Lead and coordinate the creation of compliance documentation for the project. Act as an interface for external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, assessors, auditors) relating to exchanging compliance technical and non-technical requirements and data. Discuss functional safety and security requirements with the customer and cascade them to systems, subsystems, and component levels. Perform quality reviews during all product development phases (system, hardware, software). Perform verification and confirmation reviews to ensure compliance with safety and security standards, including safety analyses D-FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, FFI, etc. Collaborate with project managers, development team and customers on achieving compliance with Functional Safety and Cybersecurity in the product. Gathers compliance documentations and evidence (safety and security cases). Organize necessary training and internal seminars/workshops to ensure team’s knowledge of standardization match with our project requirements.

Ensure that Functional Safety activities are performed according to Sensata Technologies standards and in compliance with ISO 26262, through effective management of the Functional Safety Team. Ensure that the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) activities are carried out for all the Sensata Technologies New Program Developments, minimizing the number of findings. Support the definition of technology roadmaps from the Functional Safety point of view, including the provision of the necessary resources to implement the strategies. Be the subject-matter expert of Functional Safety for technical discussions internally and with suppliers, customers, and assessors. Supervise the development of the in-house Functional Safety software. Ensure that internal processes and standards evolve in accordance with the industry state-of-the-art. Own the Safety Program Plan and the Safety Case. Approve vehicle road permission as per validation test results. Continuously look for new opportunities to increase the internal quality in the Functional Safety activities, over the short, medium, and long term.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical or electronic engineering Certified in ISO26262 Functional Safety level 2 minimum Certified software engineer either in embedded or application software.

Detailed knowledge and proven experience with ISO 26262, familiar with automotive development and quality process. Skilled in applying ISO 26262 to multiple system domains (Electrical Powertrain, Chassis, Body, Battery Management Systems, Autonomous Driving, User Experience, Passive Safety, etc.). Experience with system engineering approaches (requirements engineering management, functional analysis and allocation, architectural design, review, and testing). Experience with change, configuration, and problem resolution management. Solid knowledge of conducting safety analysis (D-FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, DFA, FFI). Knowledge of product development lifecycle, software development process, and Automotive SPICE or CMMI. Experience in working with Product Cyber Security ISO21434 requirements. Skilled in performing Impact Analysis and Threat Analysis & Risk Assessment (TARA) Knowledge of state-of-the-art automotive hardware and software solutions and best practices relevant to Functional Safety (Design, Test, Monitor, etc) Ability to assess project risks and take critical decisions with pragmatism Preferred experience in automotive industry, mobile telecommunications and IoT. Strong technical leadership, planning and organization skills. Good risk management skills, balancing development effort against added value and maintaining safety with security and availability. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to motivate teams into problem-solving and finding creative solutions. Ability to make decisions and take actions, even when operating with limited information. Excellent communication skills with customers, suppliers, assessors, and Sensata team members. High degree of personal integrity and self-confidence.
