Sensata Technologies, Inc. Functional Safety Engineer in Carpinteria, California

The candidate will support the development of Heavy Vehicle and Off Road (HVOR) projects according to the requirements of the applicable functional safety standard (e.g. ISO 61508, ISO 25119, EN 13849, ISO 26262). The candidate will be an integral part of the development team, guiding and tracking safety activity and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Tailor the safety life-cycle (determine the necessary activities) for the development of safety-critical components and systems according to the safety plan

  • Coordinate and coach the development design engineers in the FuSa requirements such as safety analysis activities (S-FMEAs, FTAs, FMEDAs, safety hazard analysis etc)

  • Negotiate Sensata responsibilities and deliverables with customers through a development interface agreement (DIA)

  • Development of project specific safety concepts and documentation for systems, hardware and software

  • Creation and tracing of the required specifications

  • Ensure team members have appropriate function- specific training

  • Participation as needed in Sensata’s Quality Management System, including audits

  • Monitoring of the adherence to functional safety standards; escalate safety non-conformances and support resolution

  • Actively contribute to the creation and improvement of Sensata’s global functional safety culture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor‘s degree in engineering

  • 3+ years of experience in the development of systems (electronics, software, mechanical)

  • Knowledge and functional experience with ISO standards for functional safety (e.g. ISO 61508, ISO 25119, EN 13849, ISO 26262)

  • Good understanding of development processes for hardware and software

  • Experience with quality assurance, writing and managing requirements (including traceability and requirements management tools).

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and teamwork skills

  • Fluent in English
