Sensata’s Operator Sensing Technologies (OST) team works closely with the industry’s leading OEMs to provide advanced, differentiated operator controls and integrated systems for the heavy vehicle, off-road vehicle, and motorcycle markets. Our products simplify operation, increase reliability, and improve productivity in a broad range of applications (Sensata OST’s core products include vehicle electronic control systems, electronic joysticks, multi-function grips and switches).

Reporting to an engineering manager, the Software Design Engineer is responsible for:
Designing embedded software for control panels, joysticks, and other operator controls
Designing desktop diagnostic software (e.g., parameter programmer, data collection, validation)
Modifying existing software to reduce complexity, improve performance, or enhance features
Resolving design & deployment challenges during pre-production and full production stages
Recommending new product or feature opportunities
Creating and maintaining software specifications
Verifying and validating firmware
Releasing software to series production
Ensuring software source code, specifications, and release documentation are properly archived
Interfacing with customer engineering teams as a technical expert, including occasional site visits

Required skills and experience:
Familiarity with safety-critical software design techniques and methodologies
Embedded firmware development w/ micro-controllers and peripherals (C language)
Knowledge of compilers/assemblers and linkers (8/16 or 32 bit)
Working knowledge of electrical schematics and component datasheets
Working knowledge of lab equipment: oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.
Strongly desired skills and experience:
Functional Safety process experience (IEC-61508, ISO-25119, and/or ISO-26262)
Communications experience with CAN-J1939 and/or UDS
Working with systems engineers and Unified Modeling Language software documentation
Experience with unit test platforms for embedded targets such as Ceedling
Experience developing in LabVIEW
Additional desirable skills and experience:
Windows development with MS Visual Studio, .NET, and C#
Coding for Infineon Aurix processors
Experience with GitHub/GitLab
≥ 5 years of related industry experience
B.S., M.Eng., or M.S. in Software or Electrical Engineering
