Sensata Technologies, Inc. Senior Accountant in Bergkirchen, Germany

The Senior Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting of (amongst others) German Sensata entities, in compliance with applicable requirements (e.g. local tax regulations, local GAAP, US GAAP, SOX and Sensata Technologies). Furthermore responsible for proper preparation and filing of VAT and Intrastat returns provide assistance with filing of CIT returns. Upon request, but also from own initiative, generating financial analyses and reports. Active participation in and contribution to improvement of (administrative) processes.

General Responsibilities

  • Meets accounting operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements

  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles

  • Monitor and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices

  • Meets accounting financial standards by providing accounting department annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions

  • Maintains cash flow by monitoring bank balances and cash requirements; investing excess funds

  • Approves cash disbursements by verifying check amounts against invoices, authorizing checks and wire transfers

  • Approves ledger entries by auditing transactions

  • Maintains financial security by adhering to internal controls

  • Recruits, trains, schedules, coaches, and manages team to ensure priorities and deliverables are met

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 7-10 years of experience

  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members

  • Holds self and others accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Functional reporting:

The senior accountant will report to the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain general ledger (accounts) by posting transactions, reconciling balances, preparing account specifications and solving discrepancies and mismatches.

  • Monthly close and reporting.

  • Ensure statutory and legal compliance.

  • Preparation and filing of VAT, Intrastat and other return(s).

  • Improve and maintain the internal control framework (SOX).

  • Support internal and external audits.

  • Closely cooperate with other finance and business departments.

  • Improve (administrative) processes and reporting.

Job requirements:

  • Master degree in economics and finance.

  • Relevant experience in an international environment (pre).

  • Knowledge of and experience with German financial reporting and tax requirements.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Oracle General Ledger (pre).

  • Knowledge of and experience with Hyperion (pre).

  • Databasemanagement and reporting skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of MS-Office, in particular Excel.

  • Flexible “can do” mentality.

  • Problemsolving ability.

  • Capable to work alone and in teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, in English and in German
