In addition to supporting our strong core business, in the CTO Office we are working and investing in three major megatrends for our future growth: (a) Electrification, which includes areas such as Electric Vehicle (EV) technology, Battery technology and Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and intelligent Energy Management Systems (EMS); (b) Autonomy, which includes areas such as perception sensing technologies (e.g. 4D imaging radar), driver assistance, and autonomous vehicles; and (c) Internet of Things (IoT), which leverages our smart and connected sensors and market position to offer IoT Edge and Cloud solutions and data insights in areas such as connected cars, Heavy Vehicles and Off-Road (HVOR), and Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications.

The Innovation and New Ventures team within the CTO Office works closely with the rest of the Sensata Ventures organization and our Business Units (BUs) to identify new technologies and growth opportunities and initiate new ventures, often in collaboration with external partners. We operate in an agile, iterative Lean Startup mode and work together with our partners and customers in early-stage business and product development that creates new business value for our customers and the company.

Directs the activities of a data science team responsible for the design, development, programming methods, processes and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for businesses across the company. Oversees the development of software programs, algorithms and automated processes that cleanse, integrate and evaluate large data sets from multiple disparate sources. Identifies and communicates to stakeholders, meaningful, actionable insights from large data and metadata sources. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel ensuring the efficient operation of the function.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Innovation and New Ventures team’s leadership and product management team to engage with customers to understand their needs and identify opportunities to create business value on top of data

  • Apply a broad array of techniques spanning machine learning, statistics, mathematics, modeling, optimization, simulation and data-mining to propose, prototype, and implement solutions that create data insights

  • Work closely with other technical leaders and teams in the CTO office and the rest of the company to provide your technical leadership and expertise in the area of Data Science

  • Help the company adopt best-in-class architectures, frameworks, libraries, tools, and techniques that address the full life-cycle of data insights product development, from data exploration to scalable implementation and deployment of data algorithms, models, and processing pipelines in production environments

  • Process complex data structures perform statistical data reduction, summarization, normalization and multivariate data analyses and report findings using advanced visualization techniques

  • You contribute product-quality implementations of scalable, optimized, and reusable ML and analytics algorithms to the company’s algorithmic library

  • Constantly stay on top of the industry’s trends, in order to provide forward-thinking recommendations to the business. In this capacity, the Data Scientist strives to build an in-depth understanding of the problem domain and available business data assets, especially those pertaining to strategic initiatives and value-based programs

Requirements

  • 15+ years of proven, hands-on track-record as a data scientist using AI/ML to develop data-driven solutions to real-world business problems

  • Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Digital Communications, Digital Signal Processing, or related Engineering

  • Extensive experience in algorithm development, data mining, data processing, machine learning (supervised and unsupervised learning), neural networks, NLP, modeling and simulation, and data visualization techniques

  • Deep knowledge of applied statistics, data-mining strategies and ability to prototype solutions

  • Excellent knowledge of data science, machine learning, and big data programming languages, tools, and technologies: Python, R, Spark ML, Jupyter Notebook, Pytorch, TensorFlow are required and one or more of Java, Golang, Scala, Storm, NoSQL stores (e.g. HBase, Cassandra, DynamoDB, MongoDB etc), and RDBMS

  • Excellent knowledge of AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud AI/ML tools, libraries, and services

  • Experience developing and deploying AI/ML algorithms for IoT Cloud and Edge applications

  • Experience in software architecture, design, and implementation of cloud services

  • 3+ years working with teams applying modern agile software development practices

  • Strong verbal and written communications and presentation skills, and ability to interact with multiple teams, stakeholders, and customers

  • Business travel expected 10-20% of the time
