Sensata Technologies, Inc. Process Engineer, Welding Center of Expertise in Attleboro, Massachusetts
This role, reporting directly to the Welding Center of Expertise manager, has been opened to enable the Welding CoE to better serve our customers (both internal an external). This role will both support existing welding operations as well as serve as the primary contact for product and process development where welding is involved.
Subject matter expert and process engineer leader on A-List new product development global project teams
Leads cross functional teams
Develop synergies across multiple product lines
Represents the organization as the principal customer contact and generally performs in program/project leadership role
Interacts with management and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines
Proactively identify risk mitigation opportunities and Process improvements
Defines manufacturing strategy for zero defect
Define specifications for production equipment and interact with Mechanization (in house) and/or equipment suppliers to ensure equipment will meet specifications
Collaborate with other departments on process specifications, quality aspects, Product specifications and continuity of equipment
Leads the development of new or improved manufacturing and testing processes that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future device applications
Leads the successful launch of new products
Leads advanced quality planning activities
Advises on functional requirements, reviews designs and arranges the debugging/qualifying of new high volume assembly/test equipment or tooling
Supports improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects and manufacturing cost
Collaborates with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure processes are capable, have sufficient controls in place, can meet our delivery requirements, and meet our cost targets
Evaluate Sensata’s and supplier’s technical capabilities including, tooling design, build experience, maintenance program, processes and Process controls, cell automation if required, quality control systems, and materials knowledge
Experience / Qualifications
A college degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree) Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

New Product Development
Lead welding development activities for NPD activities around the globe. Engage with engineering teams early to apply welding best practices and lessons learned and guide the weld development in the correct direction.
Design, conduct, and analyze the results of welding experiments in the Attleboro welding lab.
Build strong relationships with the design/process teams to develop a list of production welding processes at manufacturing facilities and associated information and metrics. Use this list to identify and execute on opportunities for improvement to safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics for welding production lines.
Close the loop between operations and design teams to provide critical feedback on the performance of welding operations and equipment to guide future decisions.
Work with operations to evaluate the health of production welding processes where statistical process control data is available. Evaluate opportunities to introduce new/improve existing statistical process control methods where appropriate. Support the deployment of weld monitoring technologies to make important process data available to the global team.
Support customer audits of welding processes, equipment, maintenance and control plans, and documentation.
Participate in evaluation and selection of welding equipment.
Employ good documentation practices to ensure that lessons we learn are documented and made available for the wider Sensata community to benefit from. Promote standardization of methods for testing and reporting welding process performance.
Apply Six Sigma principles and statistical experimentation methods (e.g. ANOVA/DoE) to drive root cause analysis and process/design improvements.
Support advanced product quality planning (e.g. PFMEA, Control Plans, etc.) and 8D activities.
An inquisitive, curious mindset about the world around you.
Excellent communication skills are required as this is a small, highly collaborative team spread across the world. English proficiency required, both verbal and written.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 5 years of experience in high volume manufacturing industries with strong quality cultures required. Experience with joining operations (e.g. wire bonding, laser welding, resistance welding, brazing, adhesives, surface mount technologies) preferred. Direct experience with welding processes is not required, but is a strong differentiator.
Experience with Minitab and Microsoft Office.
Must demonstrate proactive problem identification and solution execution you will be the eyes and ears for the team when it comes to how welding operations are performing.
