Sensata Technologies, Inc. Export Compliance Supervisor in Attleboro, Massachusetts

This supervisor position is responsible for providing direction, supervision, and control for US export activities for Sensata’s Military/Aerospace business. It is primarily responsible for supervising a team responsible for maintaining compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), embargoes and denied party regulations and other relevant trade compliance regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support management in the company’s overall export compliance program, especially those relating to ITAR and EAR

  • Manage and monitor the implementation of the Technology Control Plan (TCP) at each Sensata facility and other export compliance related procedure and work instructions

  • Service effectively as Empowered Official (EO) for Sensate US entities (per 22CFR120.25)

  • Support the preparation and submission of export licenses and agreements

  • Directly manage US-based trade compliance employees primarily responsible for US export compliance, and dotted-line manage and support other functional employees in North America with certain trade compliance responsibilities

  • Perform internal audits and reviews on exports, reviewing processes and records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements

  • Lead or participate in inter-functional projects relating to export controls

  • Provide support and guidance to outside functional groups for export and import compliance issues

  • Identify and report to Sensata Global Trade Compliance (GTC) management any potential violations of trade compliance laws and compliance violations and any incidents involving significant weaknesses in processes or procedures

  • Manage export controls training program that includes new hires and existing employees

  • Manage periodic general awareness and functional training

  • Assess the need for new training topic’s as the business needs change

  • Work with other departments on strategic planning to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness in areas that involve export compliance

  • Maintain and assist with the implementation of company export compliance procedures and work instructions

  • Review and validate export classifications of parts and materials; must have capability in the complex analyses inherent to military/aerospace export controls, and be able to determine when further escalation is required to arrive at accurate determinations (e.g. to Trade Compliance management, internal/external counsel)

  • Identify products for which Commodity Jurisdiction (CJ) determinations or Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System (CCATS) requests would be appropriate, and prepare the submissions as appropriate, in conjunction with GTC management and counsel

  • Supervise, prepare and monitor export licenses, agreements, shipping documents, and other underlying documentation for accuracy compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other applicable regulations

  • Correspond with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing/Procurement departments and outside vendors and service providers to obtain and/or provide documentation and information required for trade compliance purposes

  • Support internal, external, and government-directed export compliance audits and assessments

  • Attend export compliance seminars/conferences to maintain knowledge on regulatory updates and proposed changes

  • Assist the business site with process improvements to ensure the efficiency of the export control requirements

  • Assist in preparation of letters and other correspondence to vendors, brokers, and other parties involved in export or import transactions

  • Prepare periodic updates and metrics reports for export and import operations for GTC management

Job Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined in the ITAR

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree and/or legal training helpful

  • Detailed and extensive knowledge and experience of the EAR and ITAR regulations, including classification, licensing, reporting, and export program management

  • Experience in managing trade compliance staff is required

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, when required

  • Proficiency with DDTC, BIS, CBP, OFAC, FTR, and other relevant trade compliance regulations, primarily focused on exports; some import experience a plus

  • Minimum 5 years of export compliance experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and projects

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

  • Excellent oral and written skills
