The office of the CTO at Sensata technologies has created a megatrend-focused organization to capitalize on growth opportunities presented by Electrification, Autonomy, Connected and Sharing. A key Incubation project we are focusing on is the Smart and Connected (S&C) business.

The Mechanical Technician, S&C Garage Operations, supports the development of sensor products and the whole of the Vehicle Area Network (VAN) by preparing tractors and trailers for garage and road testing. The individual will be working alongside engineers and other technicians to integrate sensors and components into/onto heavy vehicles (specifically tractor trailers). The role requires extensive hands-on work with creative problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.

In addition, the Mechanical Technician, S&C Garage Operations, will be a part of design and manufacture of adapters/brackets/etc to allow for integration of components into/onto the vehicles.

Responsibilities Include

  • Disassembling and reassembling tractor / trailer drive train and other systems to facilitate garage and road testing

  • Design and build prototypes / proof of concept mounts and brackets

  • Develop and fabricate mechanical and electro-mechanical fixtures, jigs, and test set-ups used to interface products with data acquisition equipment

  • Perform engineering tests including data acquisition, analysis, and documentation

  • Perform failure and root cause analysis

  • Complete test reports

  • Generate and maintain garage testing processes and procedures

  • Identify and perform preventative maintenance on equipment

  • Contribute to garage continuous improvement in the areas of safety and test integrity

Job Requirements

  • Associates degree in a technical discipline strongly preferred or applicable technical expertise. Military Veterans encouraged to apply

  • Experience working with heavy machinery / equipment / vehicles

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Ability to work both collaboratively with teams and independently to complete tasks on-time

Desired Characteristics

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A; OSHA Fork Truck license or

  • Must be eligible and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A with-in 12 months of hire

  • Must be eligible and obtain an OSHA Fork Truck license with-in 6 months of hire

  • Experience working in a product development environment

  • Proven mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and test specifications

  • Experience with machining (drills, presses, lathes, etc.)

  • Experience with measurement and inspection equipment

  • Ability to analyze data to make data-driven observations and recommendations

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
