The Software Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and deployment of computer software to implement various internal software packages relating directly to electrical engineering requirements.

DUTIES : Develop software for systems and products in our Smart & Connected growth initiative within the Sensata Ventures organization. Responsible for design, development, testing, and deployment of product software to implement product requirements relating directly to electrical engineering requirements. Work within a cross-functional team to develop embedded software for multiple sensing applications and deliver unique system solutions which provide high value to our end customers. Develop complex software in C for Sensata products and/or applications consistently following Sensata's coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodology and release processes. Work with software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process. Create and execute designs for small sets of new functionality as part of a software project, e.g. Agile development methodology. Participate in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions. Provide technical oversight to more junior software developers and co-ordinate technical development with peers. Derive and document software requirements from system or subsystem level requirements. Develop embedded software for sensing and gateway products. Support all aspects of the software product life cycle, from initial software requirements capture, architectural design, coding design, implementation, test, and release to customers. Responsible for algorithm design and implementation for new functionality. Develop proof-of-concept demonstrations to customers and development partners.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering and 5 years of experience as an Embedded Software Design Engineer. Experience to include the following: 5 years of experience with software architecture, design, development, and C or C++ programming for embedded and power constrained electronics; 5 years of experience with embedded software build, deployment, and debug tools e.g. JTAG, IDE, etc.; 5 years of experience with the software development toolchain, including requirements capture tools, bug/issue tracking tools, IDEs, software analysis and testing tools, documentation tools, compilers and debuggers; and using a software development process, i.e. Agile, waterfall, or v-model; 2 years of experience developing applications for RTOS architecture (real time operating system) e.g. FreeRTOS, ThreadX; 2 years of experience using source code revision control systems e.g. Git, SVN; and experience using issue tracking systems e.g. Jira.
