Sensata Technologies, Inc. Director, Financial Planning in Attleboro, Massachusetts

The Director, Financial Planning is responsible for analyzing trends and metrics, and designing and executing project plans to convert analysis to action plans and solutions. The position will also be responsible for developing timely, accurate, and actionable data and analysis to help guide the business.

General Responsibilities

  • Directs financial planning and analysis activities to identify risks and opportunities and contribute to the achievement of the organization's short and long-term financial goals

  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective planning and analysis capability that will provide senior leadership with appropriate analytical tools to establish goals and measure performance of the Company’s portfolio of businesses

  • Routinely communicate business unit and company consolidated financial and operational performance trends, historical and forecasted, using appropriate metrics

  • Suggest trends, resulting implications, key actions, and strategic implications

  • Lead scenario modeling efforts for the development and growth of the portfolio

  • Participate as a key thought leader of the global finance team, influencing decision making, identifying finance priorities, managing directly and indirectly - finance staff in multiple locations

  • Influence the accuracy and effectiveness of the corporate accounting consolidation and closing process and treasury operations through analytical review and trend analysis

  • Develop and execute processes to allow for routine analytical reviews of company financial and operational performance, leveraging business unit analytical resources and tools

  • Support the strategic business planning process

  • Directs, coaches, and develops a team of financial professionals to ensure financial planning and analysis projects are conducted credibly and that recommendations and reports are accurate and timely

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 10-12 years of experience

  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members

  • Holds self and others accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

The Finance Director, Global Safety, Mobility & Chassis is a key leadership position within Sensata’s Automotive Finance Team. The Automotive Finance team provides financial analysis and strategic guidance for the entire Automotive business segment that generates $1.7B USD of revenue per year.

This is a high-impact role providing financial leadership and strategic guidance for the Global Safety & Mobility (GSM) and Chassis business segments. Additionally, this role will be the primary lead for the consolidation of the annual operating plan, quarterly & monthly forecasts and will be responsible for communicating those results to the executive team and driving key operational responses. Finally, this role will be engaged with developing and driving the business strategy to ensure that we are maximizing our growth and profit potential. As such, this position will be a crucial business partner to VP’s of GSM & Chassis and their various functional leaders.

The right individual will think as both a finance and business leader. They will be able to deep customers and growth at the forefront of their mind while ensuring profitability and a high return on investment.

Additionally, this role is a senior leader for Sensata finance in the N. America region and will help drive company-wide finance projects and will play a key role in talent identification & development for finance in the region.

This role will be based in the Attleboro, MA USA and will report to the Vice President of Finance, Global Automotive.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following…

  • Lead all analytical activities and supporting operating mechanisms across the global segment with annual sales of $800M USD per year.

  • Provide the VP’s of GSM & Chassis with actionable insights and analysis to define, measure and deliver world-class top-line growth, profitability and cash flow

  • Partner with the Global Operations team and key business unit stakeholders to develop and execute manufacturing & supply chain strategies that result in improved financial performance

  • Drive responsible cost management and productivity in Engineering, R&D and SG&A functions

  • Partner with the regional and global Accounting teams deploy enhanced policies and procedures that ensure a high level of controllership awareness across the business unit

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of all presentation materials for the annual operating plan and all forecasting work-streams throughout the fiscal year

  • Provide financial review and approval on quotes for new business. Ensuring rigor in revenue and margin projections and that new business profile aligns to long-term strategic imperatives

  • Identify and lead efforts to make the internal finance processes more efficient by leveraging standardization, global systems & tools

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree, with a focus in Business, Finance or Accounting

  • At least 10 years of experience in finance and/or accounting in a manufacturing company. Need at least three of the most recent years in a leadership role.

  • Proven ability to develop strong business partnerships, operate in a strategic capacity, lead through influence and drive impact in a global, cross-functional environment

  • Possesses a strong controllership mindset…with an ability to enforce controllership principles in a constructive way with business partners

  • Demonstrated ability to execute across several concurrent, high-exposure deliverables

  • Able to analyze large sets of data to extract key themes to turn them into actionable insights for functional leaders

  • Well-developed written and oral communications skills. Effectively communicates across all levels of management & executive staff

  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel & PowerPoint

  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma & Lean principles

  • Must be able to support travel to other global locations several times per year to engage directly with business, operations and finance teams
