Sensata Technologies is recruiting a Systems Design Engineer to develop system-level solutions for the Vehicle Area Network in our Smart & Connected growth initiative within the Sensata Ventures organisation.

Commercial fleets are seeking to deploy smart and connected devices across trucks and trailers in order to generate actionable insight to reduce operating costs, improve uptime and enhance safety. As a Senior Systems Design Engineer, you will work within a cross-functional team to design and integrate multiple sensing applications and deliver unique system solutions which provide high value to our end customers.

The selected candidate will join a highly motivated and growing team within a new ventures organization at Sensata charged with incubating and commercialising new technologies.

General Responsibilities

  • Key participant in established procedures and guidelines to configure and install information systems (including hardware and software) that have been purchased by the organization's customers

  • Key participant in routine enquiries from the organization's sales force or customers about the technical aspects of the organization's information systems and products

  • Organize systems specifications and formalized representations of solutions (for example, flow charts, models) to configure systems that meet customer needs

  • Organize simple technical documentation to guide system users and to assist with the ongoing operation, maintenance, and development of the system

  • Develop skills and knowledge of the organization's products and services by working closely with a more experienced engineer or as the junior member of an engineering and sales team

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree)

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts routine enquiries from the organization's sales force or customers about the technical aspects of the organization's information systems and products

  • Handles systems specifications and formalized representations of solutions (for example, flow charts, models) to configure systems that meet customer needs

  • Handles technical documentation to guide system users and to assist with the ongoing operation, maintenance, and development of the system

  • Provide technical leadership within cross functional teams to deliver new algorithms and applications for embedded systems.

  • Eliciting external and internal stakeholder requirements for new products, features & technology developments.

  • Algorithm development and modelling of system level behaviour for new functionality.

  • Development of vehicle level test and integration tools for use in proving grounds and on road test environments.

Specific Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience managing customer requirements and eliciting these into system requirement for the design.

  • Experience managing the system requirement to development user stories for the software team to develop the feature.

  • Experience in planning & execution of systems tests to confirm the feature functionality of product on application.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of UDS ISO14229 diagnostic services.

  • Automotive CAN bus experience. J1939 an advantage.

  • Use of CAN tools such as CANoe and CANdelaStudio.

  • Customer facing role will require occasional foreign travel.
