Sensata Technologies, Inc. Lean Engineer in Changzhou, China

The VA/VE/Lean Engineer is responsible realization of cost reduction opportunities within the supply chain of mechanical components which includes machining, stamping, and injection molding processes. This position will interface with a cross functional team including Design Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Supplier Quality, and Suppliers.

The role will partner with Buyers/Category specialists in identifying opportunities, coordinating workshops and driving cost savings.

The role will lead and cost reduction workshops with internal teams and suppliers by utilizing VA/VE and/or lean manufacturing tools as well as data provided from internal cost estimating and procurement.

Champion the Identification, management, and driving the realization of cost saving opportunities out of process analysis and industry best practices.


  • Coordinate, lead, and support team-based strategic improvement initiatives with key suppliers to drive continuous improvement and multi-year cost reduction programs.

  • Work closely cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for cost reductions and quality improvements within the supply base.

  • Conduct Lean/VA/VE Workshops with suppliers and DE to define cost reduction opportunities.

  • Evaluate the feasibility and cost savings impact of ideas through cost estimating, technical and manufacturing feasibility assessments, and document business case

  • Develop plan to execute cost reduction ideas.

  • Facilitate education of supply base and Procurement organization in the use of six sigma tools to improve supplier quality, process capability, and cost reductions.

  • Drive/Coordinate internal VA/VE workshops, compile ideas generated, and conduct cursory feasibility assessment

  • Maintain and improve tracking mechanism of initiated VA/VE cost savings ideas and provide throughput performance for periodic review

  • Provide VA/VE cost savings ideas and component expertise to assist in closing target price gaps for New Product Development

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering

  • Certification as and training as a 6-Sigma Black Belt by a certified training center or equivalent.

  • Minimum 4-6 years of diversified engineering experience.

  • Demonstrated success using lean techniques, DFSS, 5S, Kaizen, CTQs, DFMEA

  • Excellent English-based technical writing and verbal skills

  • Manages multiple projects with time lines

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships and engage with people quickly

  • Experience working in a geographically diverse organization
