Sensata Technologies, Inc. Field Sales Engineer in Auburn Hills, Michigan

Sensata Technologies is looking for an Automotive Sales Account Manager for our Sensors Americas Field Sales Group in Troy Michigan, whose primary responsibility is selling sensor products to high growth opportunities in the automotive market. Base customer responsibility would include a major OEM customer and the associated Tier 1 customers for the North American Region with a focus on Powertrain applications.

This is primarily achieved through understanding customer applications and establishing strong industry relationships with customers at all levels. Additionally, the candidate will need to develop strategies for closing new business, and growing the Sensata portfolio at the assigned customer. This position has to be able to understand customer’s business strategy/needs and translate those into opportunities for Sensata to participate.

Ideal candidate will be someone with senior level experience in Sales and Business Development with proven experience in business growth in a similar segment or type of product portfolio.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Pursue new and incremental opportunities for which Sensata may participate but doesn’t currently have a product (new markets).

  • Work with Sensata Marketing Management to establish and execute product roadmaps aligned with customer sourcing roadmaps.

  • Communicate business and technical information between customer and Sensata

  • Understand decision makers and their influence on awarding business within various disciplines (Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing)

  • Understand competitors strengths and weaknesses

  • Coordinate with Sensata regional counterparts for successful execution and alignment of global customer strategies

  • Lead the cross-functional team to align and support New Business Opportunities in order to drive and achieve results


  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required. Masters or MBA preferred.

  • 5+ years experience in automotive sales account management or business development role

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team

  • Experience in Powertrain systems or sensors applications (engine, transmission)

  • Past Experience in program management or application engineering is a plus

Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Excellent time management; self starter

  • Proven leadership and/or team management experience strongly preferred

  • North American customers are located in Michigan area (local travel). Some international travel (5-10% of time) necessary for global coordination of customer growth strategies.
