Sensata Technologies, Inc. Wirebond Process Development Engineer in Attleboro, Massachusetts
Sensata Technologies is looking for a Wirebond Process Development Engineer who will develop new strategies for wirebonding processes or modify existing ones for our next generation sensor platforms. He or She is responsible for being the subject matter expert on wirebonding, suggesting measures to improve product design for manufacturability and evaluation of new wirebonding technologies / equipment. This includes the development of quality metric for in-process and over life wirebond reliability, specifications for new equipment and its incorporation on our sensor production line. This position works closely with Design Engineers, Equipment vendors, Program Managers, and Quality Engineers to support the development of our electromechanical Sensor products. They will also provide ongoing sustaining support to production lines at our global Make sites as needed.
Provide technical leadership as a wirebond subject matter expert in steering new product designs for improved manufacturing and process controls that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future Sensor applications.
Assist in creating Mfg. process technology roadmaps and high volume manufacturing strategies.
Set up sample lines and process development equipment to optimize process and define process boundaries.
Evaluate new material systems for wirebonding.
Specify validation methods for quality and reliability of wirebond, review qualification data and approve change.
Globally align process and design specifications between 5 business centers and 3 manufacturing sites.
Evaluate new wirebonding equipment and process monitoring techniques to improve quality and throughput.
Specify functional requirements, review design proposals from equipment vendors and develop debug/qualification procedures for new equipment.
Participate in advanced quality planning activities including development of FMEAs and control plans.
Transfer knowledge to manufacturing site personnel and train them.
Support improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects and manufacturing cost.
Minimum BS degree in Mechanical or Materials engineering.
5+ years’ experience as a wirebond development engineer for high volume manufacturing.
Experience in new product development environment desired.
Expertise in fine gauge Aluminum wirebonding desired.
Knowledge of die bonding, encapsulation and electronic packaging.
Leadership skills and ability to work with little direction.
Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
Strong planning and organization skills.
Ability to positively influence and build relationships with global team members.
Engineering aptitude to participate in design reviews and assist during debug & qualification.
Ability to identify & correct problems by utilization of root cause problem solving skills and experimental methods such as DOE.
Experience with Agile. Minitab and SolidWorks a plus.
Advanced Skills in Microsoft Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word.
Functional understanding of advanced quality planning tools including FMEA, Control plans, to meet TS16949 requirements.
Experience with automotive OEM’s and/or Tier 1 suppliers is also a plus.
Willingness to travel internationally to assist the global team and work with our suppliers as needed is a must.
