Electro-mechanical Engineering Technician for New Product Development

  • Assist in new product design development, design upgrades to existing products, and lab infrastructure improvements to support the growth of the Automotive Sensors Business.

  • Perform engineering tests.

  • Acquire, analyze, and document data.

  • Develop fixtures.

  • Run electrical, mechanical, and product evaluation studies.

  • Ensure all tests are completed accurately, on-time, and are clearly documented.

  • Contribute to lab continuous improvement in the areas of safety and test integrity.

  • Development testing & data analysis, validation testing, test fixturing (mechanical and electrical), procedure writing, test report writing, troubleshooting, lab equipment preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.

  • Develop and fixture electrical and mechanical test set-ups. Interface set-ups with automated data acquisition equipment.

  • Basic data analysis.

  • Procedure and technical report writing.

  • Complete test reports on all testing.

  • Work with engineers on program timing and development of testing requirements.

  • Work with other technicians to achieve team goals.

  • Associates Degree Required--preferred Electro-Technical or Mechanical

  • Effective time management is a critical skill for success.

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects for 1 or 2 engineers simultaneously. Drive to consistently meet short- and long-term customer deadlines.

  • Position will provide various opportunities to develop mechanical, electrical, technical writing, data analysis, creativity, programming, leadership, and other skills. This position will provide opportunities to improve test methods and equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with, and influence, design engineers and technicians to develop product designs, and manufacturing engineering teams to support development of production tooling.

  • Assist others, and to request assistance from others as needed. Many projects are high priority and have short lead times. Weekend work may sometimes be required to maintain the program schedule.

  • A mix of electrical (eg/ basic circuits, data acquisition) and mechanical (eg/ pneumatics, machining) skills.

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills are important.

  • Familiarity with MS Excel and Word are required. Knowledge of Access, Visual Basic or HPVee, and basic statistics will be useful.

  • Working knowledge of and experience using the following bench top equipment:

  • Power supplies

  • Oscilloscope

  • DVMs

  • Working knowledge of data acquisition equipment such as Agilent Scanners Modules or National Instruments PC boards.

  • Experience using such equipment to automate measurement and test

  • LabView

  • PCB Rework techniques

  • Hand soldering
